Team: Winters + Coppack 2 points but Breese + Guthrie and Terry + P Youngs scored nil points
Report: Whilst describing the teams performance as a glorious defeat may be a tad extravegant, there was much to
admire on a closely contested evening of high quality division 2 tennis.
Against the outright division leaders, and without The Cat and Bubbles, both away on important European business trips,
the teams task was always going to be difficult. However, into the breech stepped Phil Youngs, and in a scratch pairing
with Julian, managed to win 16 games. Thanks Phil, we hope to see you again.
Charlie and PJ won 20 games but sadly ended up on the wrong side of 2 tiebreaks.
This left Winters the Elder the heavy burden of partnering Coco.
Although successful, the mental stress of his task proved too much for him and they conceded the last match with
Ian's nerves shredded and no longer responding to copious supplies of diazepam.

Team: Winters and Catlin 3 points, Guthrie and Hall 3 points and Coppack and Terry 3 points
Even if the team hadn't been surfing on the confidence of last week's great victory, this would have been
a gentle evening. Our opponents are clearly struggling in the white-hot cauldron of competition that is Division Two.
The biggest threat to success was the intermittent rain. The evening did however give the team a chance to meet/reaquaint
themselves with a legend of the Driffield League - Norman, formerly of Beeford, who has lost none of the cheery bonhomie
for which he is richly famous

| Thur 19 May | Beverley & ER B (away) | WON 3 - 6 |
Team: Winters and Catlin 3 points. Breese and Guthrie 2 points. Coppack and Terry 1 point
This was a win to savour and treasure.
This was an away match against a team thought to be the strongest in the league.
This was a result wrapped up by the end of the second round of rubbers
This was an evening when Cool Hand Mike and Winters the Elder were imperious.
This was an occasion when PJ unleashed some rockets for serves and Charlie swatted the returns away.
This was another opportunity for Julian to prop up the skipper.
This was a night to remember.

Team: Winters and Catlin 3 points. Coppack and Terry 3 points. Hall and Featherstone 1 point
Firstly, can I say a BIG thankyou to Sam Featherstone, who stepped into the breach at 2 hours notice after we
heard the news that poor unlucky Andrew Denton had broken his ankle.
Being able to field six players made an enormous difference and formed the foundation for a soild victory.
Sam also got his first point of the season into the bargain, when paired with battle narled vetran Jonny Hall.
Elsewhere, lovelorn Mike and Winters the Elder took 3 points and so did Julian who managed to inject the skipper
with some backbone and thereby do more for the team than simply buy a round of drinks - which had been his only
contribution to date this season

| Thur 5 May | Bridlington A (away) | LOST 7 - 2 |
Team: Winters and Catlin 2 points, Breese and Hall nil points, Coppack and Featherstone nil points
The evening ended with our moods as dark as the light. No couple played well with even Mike and Ian finally being
sudued by the grim, cold surroundings. Charlie and Jonny had three tight matches losing 8-6, 8-7 and 8-6 and
Jim and young Sam rarely got off the ground for long. The whole affair was rather sobering, especially as we will
probably have more difficult matches to come
