| Thur 16 June | Harpham B (away) | WON 3 - 6 |
Team: Kevin Dunne, Dominic Dunne; Dan Clarke, James Simpson, Chris Hodgeson, Jonno Pitkin
The pressure was on Kevin tonight knowing that the team had won the home leg of this match 7 - 2 when Simpson was captain, but pressure is nothing to Kevin. He and Dominic continued their reliable winning streak, and with strong performances from everyone the win was secured.
It started to rain during the last matches, and they were curtailed early, but enough had been played to be able to name the winners of each set.
Thanks must go to Harpham for providing an excellent tea afterwards - top score of all our away games so far, with plenty of sandwiches, hot tea and even two cakes (which always go down well with our team!)

| Thur 9 June | Rudston B (home) | WON 5 - 4 |
Team: Kevin Dunne, Dominic Dunne, James Simpson, Peter Grayson; Dan Clarke, Jonno Pitkin
The theory that Jess's cakes have been inspiring the team to victory was shattered tonight when a win was secured without Chris in the team!
This was a close fought match but the team's determination prevailed.

| Thur 26 May | Filey (home) | ABANDONED (RAIN) |
Team: James Simpson, Peter Grayson; Dan Clarke, Xavier Cordingley; Chris Hodgeson, Jonno Pitkin;
There was always a doubt about playing tonight after the soaking we'd experienced for most of the day, but with a good
forecast for the evening and everyone, including Filey, in agreement that it would be better to complete the match than
have to re-schedule, we gave it a go.
The match started well, and even on grass, but within an hour it tipped down and reluctantly it was agreed to abandon.
At the time everything was evenly balanced, with no real clue as to what the result would have been.
Rather than go home, everyone headed up to the bar and enjoyed a great tea, with another superb cake (chocolate and marmalade) provided
by Jess, and Camilla also delivering chocolate oat cakes (despite her broken foot).
I should also mention the great sandwiches that Jonno's Mum supplied (again!) plus more sandwiches from the Graysons.
No wonder everyone spent so long up in the bar!!
We'll have to re-schedule at the end of the season...

Team: Kevin Dunne, Dominic Dunne; Dan Clarke, James Simpson; Chris Hodgeson, Jonno Pitkin
Super Sub Captain Kevin returns - and his partnership with Dominic is winning straight away!
Well done Malton D.... are we going to get promotion this year?
A bit early to say, but hopefully Kevin can captain for a few more weeks....
The only downside was that there was no cake after the match....

| Thur 12 May | Sledmere B (home) | LOST 0 - 9 |
Team: James Simpson, Jonno Pitkin; Dan Clarke, Xavier Cordingley; Chris Hodgeson, Ollie Cordingley;
I'd like to say that it was the fact that our team missed their captain which caused this defeat, but we would all know that to be totally untrue!
First of all, a massive thank you to Ollie Cordingley for stepping in at very short notice to replace the absent captain.
Sledmere totally outplayed us, but at least everyone's spirits were raised afterwards by a fantastic chocolate cake cooked by
Jess (again). Chris knows that his place remains guaranteed because of her lovely cakes.
The captain has to repoort being very disappointed about taking the time to come along at the end of the game to check everyone was ok, but not being allowed to
sample that cake!!
We need to get back to winning ways next week...

| Thur 5 May | Brandesburton C (away) | WON 4 - 5 |
Team: Richard Simpson, James Simpson; Chris Hodgeson, Jonno Pitkin; Dan Clarke, Xavier Cordingley
The pressure was on to see if we could continue our winning ways, and tesnsion was further increased by
one pair having to play on a court a short drive away from the others, so the position was never clear until meeting in the pub afterwards!
With Joe off to University for a few weeks now, and Marcus back playing for the C Team, regular from last year: Jonno Pitkin returned
and Xavier Cordingley made his debut.
Jonno was clearly a bit rusty at first, but by the end of the evening his usual flowing ground shots were clearly witnessed.
James and his Dad, having been crushed in their first match, were suddenly cruising to victory against the next pair - who were clearly in shock at having lost a 6-2 lead
to Chris and Jonno and been on the wrong end of a tie break.
But just as James and Richard were about to clinch victory, James took a crashing fall, and needed first aid in the nearby cricket hut.
The delay gave the opponents a chance to regroup, and on the restart it was they who staged a smooth recovery to finally win in the tie break.
At least James and Richard managed to win their last match - as darkness engulfed us. James told his Dad that he hoped he'd eaten plenty of carrots, and then,
on hearing one of the opponents mutter to the other that he couldn't see, James threw caution to the wind and starting smashing in winners!
We retired to the pub knowing that the score was 4-4 and waiting to hear how Dan and Xavier had got on in their final match.
They finally arrived with the great news that they had won it - Malton players can clearly see better in the dark!
So 2 wins out of 2, and we're all looking forward to Jess's cake next week!

| Thur 28 April | Harpham B (home) | WON 7 - 2 |
Team: Richard Simpson, James Simpson; Chris Hodgeson, Joe Price; Dan Clarke, Marcus Lyons
At last we have experienced a winning start to the season!
Joe Price, back from injury, was a real bonus as he clearly could be playing for a much higher team.
Debutant Chris, a new member who has been practising a lot during the Spring, played a solid game and his place in the team
has been further guaranteed because he brought along Jess's fantastic plum sponge for dessert!
Dan and Marcus brought all their experience and guile to the match - dependable as ever, and the brilliant news was that even the captain
managed to win a match - with the help of his son James, who has progressed really well over the winter, and looks like being another regular this season.
I must also mention that we were spoilt this week with 2 home made cakes!
Not just Jess's popular plum sponge, but also one of the infamous Camilla cakes - American Chocolate. Clearly cakes to this D Team are what pies are to our B Team!!
I wonder which team will find it easier to recruit new players into their squad?
